Rachel Campbell led the Lady Cougars with 10 points as Edwards-Knox defeated Hermon-DeKalb in the consolation game of the Don Petty Memorial Tournament at Canton High School. The contest was a back-and-forth affair throughout the first half. Both Edwards-Knox’s Vanessa Bullock and Hermon-DeKalb’s Kaitlin Corscadden scored three field goals for their teams before halftime. Corscadden also scored the game’s lone 3-pointer to finish with 8 points. Led by the offensive output of Cortscadden senior forward Jessica Austin, the Lady Demons led 19-18 at the half. However, Edwards-Knox was able to neutralize Hermon-DeKalb’s offense in the second half. The Demons were outscored 20-15 after halftime. Seniors Rachel Campbell and Rachel Hatch were pivotal to the Cougars’ victory, scoring combining for 18 points in the second half including two free throws. Less than 24 hours after scoring ten points in Hermon-DeKalb’s 38-35 loss to Lisbon, junior center Beth Zeller was held to one field goal. However, she was flawless at the foul line, going 6-for-6 to finish with 8 points. The game was Edwards-Knox’s first victory over a Section X team this season.
