At the start of the Chateaugay and Brushton-Moira boys basketball game each team sat a top the East Division with unblemished records. Chateaugay came into the game with a 7-0 overall record. The Bulldogs beat some tough teams to start the season and won some close contests against Malone, NE Clinton, and Saranac. Since those games the Bulldogs have not really been tested. They won their next 4 games by an average of almost 30 points per game. They knew coming in Brushton-Moira was going to be a tough challenge. The Panthers were also undefeated with a path very similar to Chateaugay. Brushton-Moira squeaked by Harrisville, 69-66 and won over Copenhagan and Colton-Pierrepont by 6 points each game. Then they won their next 3 games by an average of over 40 points per game. Something had to give, right? After the first half of play, it still was not clear if it was going to. Each team scored 14 points in the first quarter and 14 points in the 2nd quarter. The game could not get any closer. The 3rd quarter is where things began to clear up. The Chateaugay Bulldogs came out with a zone press that Brushton-Moira did not have a solution for. Chateaugay forced several turnovers and converted them into easy baskets and won the 3rd quarter by a 16-12 margin. The 4th quarter was very similar to the 3rd. Chateaugay's full court zone press was the key to their victory. Chateaugay defeated Brushton-Moira by the final score of 61-53. Brad Dumont led the Bulldogs with 25 points. Zach Peck posted 15 points and Jordon Rankin added 12 points for Chateaugay. Justin Poirier led the Panthers with 18 points. Austin Martin had 12 points and Tyler Martin had 10 points for Brushton-Moira.
