Malone Girls Bring Home NYS Class A Championship

Two years ago the Malone Huskies made it to the Final 4. Last year they went to the championship game and this year they won the NYS Class A Title with a thrilling game against Honeoye Falls-Lima. The final score was 43-41. The first half was back and forth the whole way. The first quarter ended in a 13-13 tie and the halftime score was 24-24. When the 4th quarter started the Huskies found themselves in a 7 point deficit with Honeoye Falls outscoring FA 13-6. In the 4th, the Huskies turned it around quickly and erased the 7 point lead in the first 3 minutes of the quarter. HFL had a chance to win or tie the game in the last 9 seconds, but they were denied by the tough Lady Huskie defense. Alyson Johnson (State Class A tournament MVP) led the Huskies with 17 points and 5 rebounds on 5 3-pointers made. None more important than the 3 that put Malone ahead for good with a score of 41-39 with 2:19 left in the game. Haley Poupore added 10 points, 9 rebounds and was selected to the All-Tournament Class A team. Kelsey Johnson added 6 points and 4 rebounds for Malone. Congratulations Lady Huskies!!
