Chateaugay Denies Greensport In NYS Class "D" Semi-Final

Chateaugay is no strangers to the NYS Class "D" Final Four, as they faced the Greenport Porters from section 11. The Bulldogs looked to repeat their trip into the State Championship game but had to get past a tough challenge from the Porters. In the first quarter it was a defensive struggle, Chateaugay and Greenport both with the atmospheric jitters as they turned the ball over on their opening possessions of the ball game. Zach Peck opened the scoring drive with 6:44 in to the first quarter. Both teams still couldn't get in to a rhythm after the clock wound down in the first. Yet, Brad Dumont would take a lead for the Bulldogs 9-7 off two free throws with 2:13 to go in the first quarter. The Bulldogs then would go on a 5-2 run to end the quarter going up 14-9 after one. In the second quarter, Chateaugay looked to pull away but Greenport's Ryan Creighton, division one prospect, kept them in it with clutch free throw shooting. Greenport would get as close as three 17-14 with four minutes left in the first half. Chateaugay pulled up with a six-point lead 26-20 at the half. In the first 2:30 minutes of the third quarter the Bulldogs and Porters both traded baskets and neither team could squeak out a lead. The Bulldogs then used a great High-Low offense to create the first double digit lead of the ball game 36-26 with 3:37 left in the third. Greensport, at the helm of Ryan Creighton, cut the Bulldog lead to 5 with 1:40 to go in the third, 38-33. Chateaugay then used great full-court offense, and Zach Peck got a tip with 0.6 seconds left in the third to take a ten point lead after 3, 46-36. Greensport and Chateaugay both traded baskets and Greensport could not make a run at the Bulldogs. Then with 1:58 remaining, Greensport creates a run that cut the Bulldog lead to four, 58-54. Then Ryan Creighton would take over for the Porters tying the game up with 54 seconds left 58-58. Zach Peck hits a spin move lay-up with 18 seconds left and Jordon Rankin hits a free throw to put the Bulldogs up 61-58 with 8 ticks to play. Ryan Creighton's tying three point attempt fell short and Chateaugay moved on to face Northstar Christian in the State Championship game. Ryan Creighton had 28 points and 14 rebounds for Greensport. Brad Dumont had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Zach Peck had a double-double as well with 25 points and 14 rebounds, leading Chateaugay into the State Title game.
