The Defending State Champions, the lady Red Devils of Hammond found themselves in a good position to defend their state title after winning the class "D" title in Section X. They drew a first round bye, putting them all the way into the Regional Finals against the Winner of Argyle and Scroon Lake. Argyle defeated Schroon Lake Wednesday night and faced Hammond Saturday at Maxcy Hall. In the first quarter it looked as though it was going to be a tough game as each team looked to boast a lead. Hammond eventually pulled away and never looked back using their great inside-out game. Hammond lead after the first quarter 13-8. In the second, Hammond used a 7-0 run to start the quarter and began to pull away from the lady Scotts. The Scotts, a team who shot well previously from the three-point arc, could not get anything to fall, and were throwing up a ton in the first half. The Red Devils were up 33-20 at half-time. In the third quarter, the lady Scotts began to pick up their defense, getting three steals in a row to start the half. After the Scotts cut the lead to as little as 30-26, Hammond began to pull away sparked by Aubrie Dunn with a huge put back at 5:25 left in the third, giving the Red Devils an 11 point lead 37-26. The Red Devils rolled in the next two minutes and went up 20 points off a Nicole Davidson and-one with 3:27 left in the third, 44-24. The Red Devils led 48-29 after three. In the fourth quarter Hammond used some bench rotation to finish out the game. Argyle took advantage in the fourth who kept chipping away at the Red Devil lead. But it was too late for Argyle as the Defending State Champs lead was too much and Hammond prevailed 63-51. Brittany King had 18 for the lady Scotts. Hammonds Brittany Kenyon had 26 to lead all scorers.
