The Blue Devils of Ogdensburg Free Academy started yet another state run Friday night against Hoosic Valley at Maxcy Hall in Potsdam. In the first half OFA got all their points off half-court sets. They used no press, which enabled them to keep fresh on the court. After a close 8-5 first quarter the Blue Devils turned to Tom Kelso inside in the second quarter to pull away from the Indians. The Blue Devils used some stifling defense to hold the Indians to just two points in the second quarter. They also took away the Indians three point shooting, in which they lived by during their season. The Blue Devils opened a 26-7 halftime lead. At the start of the second half the Indians came out tough. They used some great defensive pressure to allow some fast break opportunities. Yet, the Blue Devils came right back with answers of their own on the offensive end. Both teams found themselves trading baskets and Hoosic Valley just could catch a break to pull close enough to cut the deficit to single digits. Jon Garvey buried two huge threes just before the end of the third quarter to put the Blue Devils up 42-23. In the fourth quarter OFA used some great bench play and extended their lead to as much as 30 with three minutes left to play. Hoosic Valley knew they didn't stand a chance when Gene Bouyer slammed home a fast break jam putting an exclamation point on the win. The Blue Devils moved in to the Regional Quarter finals to face a tough Plattsburgh squad. Pat Lanoue had 14 points for Hoosic Valley. Tom Kelso had 17 points and Gene Bouyer had 18 for the Blue Devils.
