Hammond Girls Heading Back to NYS Tournament

2008 Section 10 Class D Champion Hammond Red Devils.

The #2 seed Hammond Red Devils win over the #1 seed Chateaugay Bulldogs by the score of 50-33 in the Section 10 Class D final. The halftime score was 21-12. Chateaugay started out quick taking a 7-2 lead in the first 3 minutes of play. The rest of the first half was all Hammond. The Red Devils went on a 19-5 run to finish the half holding Chateaugay to just 1 point in the 2nd quarter. In the second half Chateaugay got as close as 4 points (27-23), but never would regain the lead. Hammond pulled away in the 4th quarter with an 18-6 finish. Brittany Kenyon led the Red Devils with 23 points (17 coming from the foul line all in the 4th quarter). Nicole Davidson added 9 points and Cassie Cunningham had 8 points for Hammond. Kate Hamelin led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Lauren LaBare added 9 points and the stifling Hammond defense held Chateaugay's leading scorer Candace Fowler to just 2 points in the game. Hammond will Ogdensburg in the Section 10 overall semifinal on Tuesday night.
