Hammond Girls Roll to a Huge Semi-Final Victory

The last regular season game the lady Red Devils of Hammond and the Lady Pirates of Harrisville matched up, Hammond squeaked out a 6 point victory 54-48. In the playoffs, Hammond always finds a way to dominate. At the start of the game it looked as though it was going to be a close one; as the Red Devils and Pirates rose to a quick 6-6 stalemate. The lady Red Devils soon used their smothering full-court press to dominate the lady Pirates and cruise to a 21-8 first quarter margin. In the second, Hammond's press still held true. The lady Red Devils got lay-up after lay-up and the lady Pirates had little answer for the Devils on offense. The lady Red Devils found themselves with a 19-point half-time lead 40-21. In the third, the lady Red Devils still poured it on with a great half-court offensive sets. Led by MVP Brittany Kenyon, the Red Devils attacked the basket to draw fouls and easy lay-ups, to find themselves with a 58-33 lead after 3 played. In the fourth, the Pirates showed a sign of life when the cut the Red Devil lead to as little as 13. But the Red Devils showed why they are state Champions, and held off the Pirates for a 74-49 victory. The Red Devils go on the face Chateaugay at SUNY Potsdam Friday night at 6:15 p.m. In a rematch of the 2006 Class "D" title game. Patty Coloney had a huge night for the lady Pirates and led all scorers with 25 points. Aubrie Dunn scored 12, Cassie Cunningham scored 17, and Brittany Kenyon scored 23 for the Red Devils.
