The Ogdensburg Blue Devils seem to be peaking at the perfect time. In their last 2 games, they won with ease over 2 very tough teams. On January 22, they beat Indian River by 20 points and on January 25 they beat a tough Malone squad by 31 points. The Massena Red Raiders have lost 5 of their last 8 games, but were riding a 2 game winning streak with wins against Canton and Potsdam. When the OFA Blue Devils and Massena Red Raiders meet there is always excitement in the air. The gym was packed, the crowd was loud, and the players came out ready to play. Senior Mike Luckie got things started for the Blue Devils hitting 2 3-pointers in the first minute to give OFA an 6-2 lead. Massena finished the quarter with a 10-6 run to tie the game at 12-12. Massena was the team to start quick in the second quarter taking a 16-12 lead within 1 minute. During the next 5 minutes the Blue Devils went on a 15-4 run behind the brilliant play of super sophomore Gene Bouyer. Bouyer made an incredible acrobatic layup and hit 3 straight 12-15 foot jump shots during the run. Massena battled back in the last 2 minutes of the half and pulled to within 1 point before Tom Kelso hit a layup at the buzzer to give OFA a halftime lead of 29-26. The first 4 minutes of the 3rd quarter saw each team trade baskets back and forth. Then the Massena Red Raider shots just stopped going down. OFA went to a zone defense and Massena had some good looks but could not get the ball to drop in the hoop. The OFA defense simply shut down the Massena offense. They held Massena to just 6 points in the 4th quarter. The final score was 64-44. Gene Bouyer led the Blue Devils with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Tom Kelso had 11 points and 9 rebounds. Mike Luckie finished with 3 3-pointers (9 points) and 3 rebounds. Garrett Sharlow led the Red Raiders with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Cody Clary had 8 points and Justin Vice scored 7 points for Massena.
