The Eagles came to Morristown looking to soar out of the cellar, but the Rockets shot down that idea. The Eagles who were winless up until tonight came out hustling and scraping, hoping to catch the Rockets sleeping and they did for a few minutes. The Eagles found themselves in the lead after the 1st quarter for the first time this season and looked like the Eagles that just learned to fly. The Rockets held their own and were down just 16-13. The Rockets lost their "Fan Four" last year and have four Seniors this year that do not see much time. They are young and made mistakes that can only get erased with experience. The Eagles are young as well led by Junior Kenny Sova who led all scorers with 20 points followed by Junior Bruce Langevin and Sophomore Tom McCormick who both had 8 points and Grant Backus chipped in 9 points. But the Rockets countered with 17 points from a sophomore of their own, Drew Lapinsky who had 17 points complemented by Junior Will Griffith who had 12 points. Lapinsky had a nice night of shooting, hitting the trifecta and some short jumpers while Griffith drove the lane with some slashing. Griffith and Ryan Perretta (5 points) crashed the boards showing you do not need height to rebound. The Rockets had 5 other players with 7, 7, 6 and 6 points spreading the points around gaining more confidence as the Rockets posted their first league win. Even though the Eagles were up 31-26 at teh half, the young Rockets came out of the locker room on fire stealing the 3rd quarter 16-7. With more fast breaks than I could count and driving layups that only landed through the hoop half of the time, the young Rockets remained ahead 42-38. The 4th quarter was played almost even until the last few minute free throws led the Rockets to a 60-49 victory. The Eagles may upset someone yet with some sparks of their own.
